Michael Baker
Author, Historian, Screenwriter & Podcaster

Michael graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History and a B.Litt in English. He worked in TV and film for some 25 years, first as a documentary maker, then as an award-winning screenwriter in the UK, Europe and America.
During this period he also wrote a number of well-received non-fiction works, ranging from biography to social history.
From the early 2000s, he taught History (modern, early modern and medieval) at a number of schools and colleges in London. He continues to write and now enjoys making podcasts as well.
The idea behind the Understand History podcasts is to reintroduce, in an accessible way, nuance and complexity to major narratives of the past that have become oversimplified and misleading.
Michael is currently preparing a new podcast series about the Cold War.
